"In 2016, this nation will take one of two paths into the future," said Institute chairman and series moderator Secretary Leon Panetta, "we will be either an 'America in Renaissance' providing a strong economy, opportunity and security for all, or an 'America in Decline' paralyzed by continuing political gridlock and crisis. Which path we take may well be determined by how the next president meets the challenges of leadership we face at home and abroad."

"The purpose of the Leon Panetta Lecture Series is to provide a forum for some of the top experts and leaders in the nation to inform the public by addressing questions like: What will it take for the next president to be a strong commander-in-chief and world leader? What steps are needed to guide our economy to long-term economic and fiscal security? How does the next president break the partisan gridlock in order to govern? Can America be unified in the face of dramatic changes in our society, technology and media?

Each of the Leon Panetta Lecture Series programs will be broadcast live throughout California by Comcast, Comcast Hometown Network, the California Channel and other cable networks. C-SPAN periodically broadcasts these lectures nationally. The lectures are also available for viewing via live web-streaming at www.panettainstitute.org/lecture_series/lecture_webcast.htm and are broadcast live on public radio.
