Citizen Kane is a 1941 American mystery drama film by Orson Welles, its producer, co-author, director and star. Nominated for Academy Awards in nine categories, it won an Academy Award for Best Writing and topped the American Film Institute’s 100 Years 100 Movies.

In “Citizen Kane,” Welles drew the most sweeping American portrait of ambition operating within a lawless world that overflows its banks, actually and metaphorically, as a result of an unbounded lust for power.
