The off-the-cuff comedy specialists at Fremont's Made Up Theatre celebrate the season with a special improv salute to Halloween, featuring two scary-funny shows in one. The first half features spooky improv games inspired by audience suggestions. Some folks in the crowd might even get asked to participate in the Halloween fun. The second half features the Wheel of Scary Genres and showcases the players' long-form skills as they make up an improvised movie on the spot. Will it be a teen slasher? A ghost story? A psychological thriller? There's only one way to find out.

Quirky Canadian Harland Williams left behind a career as a forest ranger to try stand-up comedy, and soon found himself acting as well, landing parts in comedies like There's Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber, The Whole Nine Yards and Sorority Boys. He continues to perform stand-up and has appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, HBO, Comedy Central and at comedy clubs throughout the country. His oddball stand-up routine is popular for his random references and obscure topics, from koalas to KFC. He can be heard every week on his podcast, The Harland Highway, one of the most downloaded podcasts on iTunes. Catch him live at the San Jose Improv.

Following a two-year run at Caroline's on Broadway and an evening at New York's Theater at Madison Square Garden, comedian Colin Kane takes the stage at the San Jose Improv. A New York native, Kane's uncensored comedy and sharp crowd work earned him the top spot in Howard Stern's Kill or Be Killed competition, and he's a regular radio guest on The Opie & Anthony Show. Kane has played the New York comedy club circuit as well as venues in Los Angeles, Boston, Washington, D.C., Boston, Mexico City, Norway and Stockholm, and Dennis Miller calls him "the next really big comedian."

Joe List got his start as a comedian in Boston in the year 2000, when the fresh-faced young comic was just weeks out of high school. Since then he's appeared on Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, The Artie Lange Show, been a semifinalist on Last Comic Standing, and last year List made his network television debut on the beloved Late Show with David Letterman. He's also performed at some of the industry's finest festivals, including Montreal's Just for Laughs and the Oslo Comedy Festival, as well as released an album of original material called So Far No Good. Now you can laugh along to all of his hilariously deadpan self-deprecation when he headlines Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Club in Sunnyvale.

They call him Tater Salad. Ron White, one of the charter members of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, is a legend of stand-up, and now he's coming to Vina Robles Amphitheatre. Like his Blue Collar cohorts Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Bill Engvall, White has released acclaimed comedy albums and appeared in successful films and TV shows. You've seen him in Reno 911! and Horrible Bosses, and his live record, A Little Unprofessional, was nominated for a Grammy. He's even a published author -- his book, cheekily titled I Had the Right to Remain Silent ... But I Didn't Have the Ability, was a New York Times best-seller. Nothing beats his live performance, though, so don't miss one of the masters of the craft show off his stuff.
Improv is comedy without a net, where daredevil performers depend not only on the audience for suggestions, but also on their fellow performers for support and Lady Luck for inspiration. Done right, it's not just hilarious -- it's astonishing. The American Improv Theatre (AIT) Players do it right. Come laugh and marvel as the Players spin entire scenes from suggestions. The show begins with some silly, quick-moving improv games (Think Whose Line Is It Anyway?). Then the Players raise the stakes with longer, more connected scenes so good they seem scripted. But they're not: Everything that happens at Black Cat Licorice Theater is discovered in the moment.

Dan Gabriel grew up going to comedy clubs in the Bay Area and spent most of his childhood dreaming of being on the stage himself. Now a veteran stand-up comedian, Gabriel has appeared on The Late Late Show, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, CBS's Star Search and NBC's Late Friday. He was an award-winning writer for Thugs on Film on BBC America and the winner of the L.A. Take Out comedy competition. Feathers in Sunnyvale.

His amazing stock of characters, along with his wicked way with a punchline, has made him one of the top young comics in America and a semi-finalist on season seven of NBC's Last Comic Standing. Already a well-traveled veteran of the country's top comedy clubs, Rocha has appeared on SiTV's Latino Laugh Festival and was the subject of a Travel Channel documentary. Now come out and enjoy some big laughs with Jerry Rocha at Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Club.
